The Italian Government Has Better Things to Worry About - But Never Cease to Amaze
Perhaps, you had not been following the news, but the Italian military was paying the Taliban money so that they would leave their forces alone and not attack their base camp in Afghanistan. Well, as a member of NATO, don’t you find that somewhat odd? So, instead they gave the Taliban cash, which they used to buy weapons and finance attacks on other NATO nation forces in Afghanistan.
For instance, US Troops. If you know someone who had a family member die in Afghanistan you never know it could have been Italian monies which were used to buy weapons which killed them. Or perhaps, the many attacks on UN locations in Pakistan, and Afghanistan is where the Taliban used that money? Hard to say, many from the World Food Program died in a UN Building in Pakistan, other UN workers also died recently in Kabul.
A recent GAO report (November 5, 2009) now shows that attacks in Afghanistan now are higher than at any time during the Iraq conflict. Apparently, the Taliban is getting desperate, and now things are getting crazy.
According to an article in Reuters on November 4, 2009 titled; “Italy convicts former CIA agents in rendition trial” it appears the Italian courts have condemned more than a half a dozen former CIA agents to 8-years in prison for abducting Abu Omar, who was taken to be questioned for his involvement in recruiting insurgent suicide bombers and combatants into Iraq.
This is interesting too, because whereas, the Italians have been funding the Taliban to not attack their NATO base camps they are making it look like the USA is the bad guy? Why is Italy switching sides, or is this latest condemnation of the CIA, merely because they’d got caught with their hands in the Taliban’s cookie jar. Well, that’s my question for today, you have a nice day too.
