The Devastating Effects of Strict Gun Control Laws - When Will We Learn?
Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan and two pistols killed 13 people and injured at least 30 at the army post Ft Hood. An Army post! Why?
Because military bases have the strictest gun control laws that I’ve ever experienced. The irony. Men and women supposedly trained in the handling of weapons not allowed to protect themselves on a military installation.
Oh there are plenty of weapons there but they are all locked up snuggly in the armory. A lot of good they do there.
All you would have needed is one soldier with a sidearm to take out this maniac. Hasan knew what he was doing, he knew the rules of the post. He had all the time in the world to deliberately murder fellow soldiers.
I’ve been on more than a dozen military posts and bases in my life and I know from experience it’s like going to the mall. Crowds of people shopping and enjoying themselves defenceless. Most civilians think of a military base as planes and tanks but the reality is much activity happens at the base/post exchange (shopping) the Burger Kings and the prize of every military base: the golf course. Shooting ducks.
We obviously haven’t learned our lessons from 9/11. Imagine owning a million dollar piece of equipment (an airplane) and having 100s of customers (passengers) and fellow employees (the crew) and not being able to protect your investment because the government said you can’t, but instead they’ll protect you.
A pilot with a firearm could have taken out all the terrorists with box cutters and saved upwards of 3000 lives. But no. They weren’t allowed to protect their property.
I have seen the guards at the Capital are armed though. I guess those on the Hill are more deserving of protection than the rest of us.
When will we learn- 9/11? Virginia Tech? Ft Hood?
When?
