City - A Place of Dreams
A city is not an area lined with cement and crossed by cars racing around and buried by the thick smoke from the chimneys and also the deafening noise of car horns. Nor is it an open field in which each and everyone is rushing from one place to another as if they had no fixed destination.
A city is much more than the rush of those who are running around, which is much more than concrete, iron and asphalt structures of the cities that have grown in a disordered manner, in which the life of many generations of men and women was spent between the time and anxiety of the reduction of spaces.
The city is more than one site, a place, a lot of land and space. The city is people laughing and crying at the pace imposed by the events of their time and lifestyle, it is the encounter of the innocent smiles of children with a whisper of wind in the treetops whose shadow is projected generously on the sidewalk where friends share their conversation or in the park in which the lovers walk hand in hand and plan a future filled with love and understanding.
It is the point of time and space in which the matching of people’s souls takes place and their desires to build a new and better world and their need to live together with other human beings beside them is of relevance. The city suffers and enjoys, as a human being conducts and constructs there everyday as a rational, emotional and intelligent person.
The city is the place to open our eyes each morning to receive the light of day and to absorb the air that our bodies are alive with. We have to face the struggle of every day with renewed strength obtained in the folds of memory or in a far corner of the future which has been projected in our dreams.
The city is the place where we were born by God’s will or where we face the intense days of daily living by choice or by force of circumstances. Certainly it is not just a place where we are born but the scenario in which it projects and fulfills the task of living and sharing. In a sense a city is one in which at any given time, we are planting our feet and our eyes are fixed. It is the geographical area in which the heart beats and blood flows in your life permanently.
The city is a platform where people pass through here and there, a street where walkers move driven by their commitment, a road crossed by bridges of cordiality, a set of neighborhoods that customs born, modifying and is shown in a perennial process of construction and achievements.
A city, in other words, is life. It transmits it to people who are sheltered in its protective shadow.
