Should Immigrant Workers Be Accepted?
The United States is known as the Land of the Free and the Land of Milk and Honey. Many people from third world countries come to the United States in search of greener pastures. They take jobs that many Americans do not wish to take.
Why should we accept imigrant workers?
- On the lighter side, immigrant workers are known to be very industrious.
- A lot of immigrant workers have taken jobs that many American citizens could not do right. Not that they do not know how to do it but they find it s disgrace, such as being a maid or a nanny, or caretaker for the terminally ill. This also includes nurses at hospitals who need to clean all the blood and the mess of patients.
- Many Americans find immigrants to be of great value to them since they can take tasks that are rejected by fellow Americans such as cleaning their fecal matters when they are sick.
- Also, the labor cost is cheap because the US dollar is heavily expanded to the local currency of these immigrant workers.
However, there were several issues raised that even reached congress.
- Many contested that these immigrant workers are taking jobs that should have been rightfully given to Americans.
- It is presumed that jobs should be given to US citizens since they live here and that they have rights to get decent employment.
- It is claimed that there is no need to accept immigrants as the same immigrants populate the country and significantly impacts the economy.
- What these immigrants earn is not spent in the country but somewhere else.
In this regard, the ultimate question is raised: should immigrant workers be allowed?
