Living in a Big City: Is It Worth It?
It may seem as a dream come true to many young professionals to live in the big city, especially those who spent all their lives in the rural areas and farmlands raising cattle. Many graduates look forward to moving to the Big Apple or any other major cities that thrive 24 hours a day, seven days a week. But one should ask himself, is it really worthy it?
Benefits
- One benefit of living in the city is the potential for earning money.
- The city is where people can find jobs that match their skill sets—things that they studied in college or in high school
- It is very unlike rural areas in which the number of things that a person can do to earn a living is very limited.
- It takes a person closer to what is essentially his future.
- Career choices abound and the people that a person will work with have a significant amount of knowledge to transfer or share.
Disadvantages
- It should also be taken in consideration, though, that there are also lots of criminal activities going on in any given city.
- The crime rate is always higher and does not seem to go down.
- Other than that, one should not forget the kind of stress that a city might bring.
- The traffic alone is unbearable and does not show any signs of improving.
- Also, expectations in the city are all different. Managers are obnoxious and uncaring.
- In the city, one begins to feel like dirt, short of being a slave for money.
So, is it worth it?
